It has been a bit quieter over the summer - although the Polish survival course created quite a stir, 

and some thirsty souls have kept the pub night tradition going! 

But there are lots of things coming up and to look forward to - we will be updating you on this page and the fabulous

First up, we are still accepting takers for all of our evening courses - the deadline has been extended to 28th September:

Introduction to Polish Culture

This course invites participants to discover modern Poland from many perspectives: from historical experience to cultural tradition and artistic innovation. Topics covered include the complex memories of the Second World War, the communist period and the migratory experience, the Jewish and Turkic influences that enrich Poland's culture, the country's folk traditions and its cutting-edge experimental art. Along the way, it examines the work of a wide variety of internationally renowned Polish artists, from the theatrical revolutionaries Grotowski and Kantor to the Oscar-winning filmmakers Wajda and Polański.

The course is intended for a wide audience with a general interest in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe and Poland in particular. The sessions are delivered in English by staff of Trinity College and special guest lecturers.

The course is part supported by the Embassy of Poland in Dublin.

Euro 2012 Polish Survival Course Completed!

Fifteen football fans and Poland enthusiasts took part in a three-day intensive Polish course organised by the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies last week. The course covered a range of communicative situations, including ordering a meal and buying a train ticket, as well as offering an invaluable insight into the Polish culture. Here are a couple of phrases that might come in handy to those who missed the course:

Dzień dobry. (Hello)

Jak się Pan/Pani ma? (How are you?)

Nie, nie jestem Anglikiem. (No, I am not English)

Jestem z Irlandii. (I am from Ireland)

Kibicuję Irlandii. (I support Ireland)

Irlandia gola! (Go Ireland!)

Kochamy zielonych! (We love the boys in green!)

Get ready for Euro 2012 in just three days!

Our intensive Polish courses focus on practical language skills which will help you to make the most of your time in Poland. The courses are for absolute beginners who want to learn everyday language and get a taste of local culture before embarking on their football adventure in June 2012. The sessions are fun and interactive and will help you to pick up the language and gain confidence in just a few days.

Dates and fees:

Three sessions of 4 hours, total of 12 hours

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,

30 – 31 May and 1 June

4.00 – 8.30 pm

Short Waves Polish Film Fest

In 2012 Polish Short Film Festival SHORT WAVES will travel across cinemas and venues of the world for the fourth time. Between 12th and 28th of April Short Waves will visit over 30 Polish cities, as well as a few selected cities abroad (Berlin, Dublin, Helsinki, London, Porto, Prague, among others).

Main goal of the Festival - organised by Ad Arte Foundation - is to present and promote Polish short films. There are no restrictions on film genre, subject or style. This year the programme consists of 10 shorts carefully selected from over 220 applications. Among them are narratives, documentaries, animations, experimental films and music videos.

The audience in all participating cities will have a chance to vote for the best film.
